Dr.Mahathir Quits The Party He Ruled For 22 Years.

The "MAN" that established Umno Baru in 1988 quits the party to put more pressure on Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to step down "as soon as possible" from his leadership post in Umno, Barisan National and Government.

Mahathir's resignation is consistent with this strategy. He is asking top Umno leaders to follow his lead and to resign from Umno. At the same time, he is prompting the rank and file to do so as well.

Although a masterful politician, Mahathir seems to be somewhat blinded by his single-mindedness in wanting to get rid of Abdullah. The proverbial last straw that broke the camel's back was the Royal Commission of Inquiry report on V.K Lingam case, which names Mahathir as one of the people who should be investigated.

After the report came out, he obviously decided it was time to go for broke. This is not the 1st time in his career he's done this. He risked it all in his battles against the royalty, against the judiciary and against Anwar Ibrahim. But this time, the stakes are higher than even before. If he succeeds, it could spell not only the end of Abdullah, but also Umno Baru - the party the founded - as well as Barisan Nasional, which is facing it's biggest challenge in its history.

One political Analyst at the scene said that he now believes that Mahathir will be backing Razaleigh in the latter's bid for the top post.

IRONICALLY, IT WAS MAHATHIR WHO INTRODUCED THE NOMINATION QUOTA SYSTEM TO WARD OFF FURTHER CHALLENGES FROM RAZALEIGH AFTER HE NARROWLY SQUEEZED THROUGH IN THE 1987 UMNO ELECTION.

WE LIVE IN THIS SERIOUSLY FUNNY WORLD !!!
